APC Set To Receive Taraba Governor Kefas On Wednesday
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will formally welcome Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, into the party on Wednesday, finally putting an end to months of intense speculation about his planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.
APC officials confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that all arrangements have been finalised for the high-profile move.
Speaking with Sunday Punch, the National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru, disclosed that the party’s leadership was fully mobilised for Kefas’ entry.
He said, “The entire National Working Committee members of the APC will receive Governor Kefas on November 19. We are prepared for the event.”
Kefas, one of the few remaining PDP governors, has been the subject of defection rumours for close to five months.
The Taraba governor’s move will make him the fourth PDP governor to join the ruling APC this year.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, defected on April 23, 2025, followed by Akwa Ibom’s Governor, Umo Eno, on June 6, and Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, on November 3.
Kefas’ defection further reduces the dwindling number of opposition governors in the PDP and signals another major shift in the political power map ahead of the 2027 elections.
An official invitation card was sighted on social media on Saturday, confirming the defection ceremony.
According to the invitation, the event will take place at 1 pm on Wednesday at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.
