Abia lawmaker Aguocha pleads for mercy during final judgment of Nnamdi Kanu’s trial

An Abia State lawmaker in the House of Representatives, Obi Aguocha, has pleaded for mercy during the ongoing final judgment of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Aguocha, who represents Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State, appealed on Thursday during the court proceedings.

DAILY POST reports that the court convicted Kanu on all the offences in the seven-count terrorism charge filed against him.

Aguocha explained that he and Kanu attended primary and secondary school together, noting that although he was Kanu’s senior, he felt a personal responsibility to speak for him, especially in his capacity as a federal lawmaker.

He pleaded passionately with the court to temper justice with mercy, citing the implications of the case for peace and stability in the South East and the country as a whole.

“My lord, I am the direct representative of Nnamdi Kanu. He is my brother and friend. It is my responsibility and obligation as a member of the National Assembly to represent him.

My Lord, I plead for mercy. I plead for clemency. I pray for peace, not just for the South East, but for all of Nigeria,” he said.
