Why Gov Makinde Has Turned Emergency Opposition Mouthpiece – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State turned into what he described as an “emergency opposition mouthpiece” after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rejected attempts at reconciliation during Makinde’s recent visit to the Presidential Villa.

Fayose made the allegation in a statement issued on Sunday, reacting to Makinde’s recent remarks against Tinubu at a birthday event where former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also attended.

Abia Radio News reports that Makinde had told Osinbajo he personally missed him and his leadership during the previous administration, the Oyo state governor also condemned the newly implemented tax laws.

According to Fayose, Makinde’s comments against the President further confirmed that he was given what he termed a “cold shoulder” during his last meeting with Tinubu.

“As I earlier made public, in his attempt to do damage control on his public speech against the President, Makinde met the shock of his political life when he visited Asiwaju last week,” Fayose claimed.

He alleged that Makinde realised during the meeting that reconciliation between him and the President was no longer possible.

Fayose further alleged that Tinubu made it clear to Makinde that, as far as Oyo State was concerned, the President would support candidates of his own party in the 2027 elections.

“It is now obvious that after getting that cold shoulder from the President, Makinde must have realised that the end of the road has come in terms of reconciliation,” Fayose said.

The former Ekiti governor said Makinde’s criticism of Tinubu and praise of the Buhari administration vindicated his earlier position.

“If Makinde had gotten the soft landing he expected from the President, he wouldn’t have gone ahead to condemn the government of President Tinubu by calling him a dictator,” Fayose stated.

Fayose also urged the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State to brace for political battle ahead of the 2027 elections.

“With these assurances, the APC in Oyo State should wake up and slug it out with Makinde’s candidate, which he will field under the ADC, knowing full well that the PDP won’t be open for him to use,” Fayose added.
