Abia Lawmaker Calls for Evaluation of Local Government Mayors Activities

The State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs says periodic evaluation and engagement with policy makers and implementers are essentials for enhanced productivity.
The Whip of the State House of Assembly and member of the Committee, Mr Emeka Obioma who stated this when the Committee went for oversight visit in Aba North and South Local Government Areas, stressed the need for Council Mayors and their Officials to prepare themselves for such engagements so as to bring out the best from the system.
He stressed the need for the Council Mayors to be pro-active in replicating the Governor’s good work at the Grassroots, and assured that the oversight function of the House is not aimed at witch-hunting any one.
Contributing, some members of the Committee, including Chief Kalu Nwoke of Ohafia South, and Sir Lucky Johnson of Isuikwuato, called for stronger collaboration between the Council Leaders and Stakeholders so as to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people of their Councils, especially in bringing about the needed development in the Grassroot.
Welcoming the Committee to Aba South, the Mayor of the Area, Mr. Anyanwu Obialor who described the visit as expected, assured the Committee of their cooperation and identified some of their achievements to include, the remodeling of the Aba South Legislative Block, the ongoing reconstruction of the Revenue building of the Council, and the Dr. G. C. Duru complex.
At Aba North Local Government Area, the Mayor, Mr. Timothy Iheke, appreciated the lawmakers for the engagement aimed at bringing out the best in them, and enumerated the renovation of the Administrative Block, installation of Solar Lights in some of the Office Blocks and ongoing reconstruction of their Corpers’ Lodge, as some of their achievements.
