ABSSAA MD Hails Abia Administration, Urges Youths on Grassroots Mobilisation for Good Governance
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Abia State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency(ABSSAA), Honourable Mrs. Victoria Dibunma Onwubiko, has commended the present administration in Abia State for what she described as deliberate and people-oriented policies aimed at restoring human dignity and promoting sustainable development.
Mrs. Onwubiko made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from Abia Progressive Elites, a youth-oriented group, during a familiarisation visit to her office.
According to her, the current government’s focus on education, infrastructural development, human capacity building, and job creation reflects a clear commitment to improving the welfare of citizens. She noted that strategic initiatives such as the acquisition of Aba Star Paper Mill and the rehabilitation of the ceramics industry are targeted at generating massive and sustainable employment opportunities for the growing youth population in the state.
“The present administration in the State is raising human dignity through intentional policies in education, infrastructural development, human capacity building, and job creation,” she stated.
The ABSSAA boss commended the group for championing good governance and encouraged them to intensify grassroots mobilisation, public enlightenment, advocacy, and sensitisation efforts across the state.
She particularly urged young people to take an active role in the electoral process, stressing the importance of protecting the integrity of their votes.
“Youths should be able to defend their votes at the polling units without fear of intimidation or molestation so that votes will count. A situation where votes are manipulated at the polling units should not be accepted,” she said.
Mrs. Onwubiko also accepted the group’s proposal to serve as their matron, assuring them of government recognition and institutional support, provided they maintain good intentions and youth-focused objectives.
Earlier in his remarks, the Founder of Abia Progressive Elites, Dr. Alfred Chukwudinma Lucky, commended the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, for renewing the hope of young people through progressive and youth-centred policies.
He explained that the visit was aimed at familiarising the group with the Agency’s leadership, presenting their objectives, and seeking government backing.
According to him, the movement has representatives across all the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, including wards and polling units, to ensure effective grassroots mobilisation and advocacy for good governance.
“We have representatives in all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State, including wards and polling units. These coordinators will ensure that our mandate is fully carried out at the grassroots level and that votes truly count,” he said.
Dr. Lucky further requested official recognition, funding, institutional legitimacy, and logistical assistance from the government to enable the group effectively carry out its activities.
In his contribution, Honourable Jetih Chijoke, Chairman of the Abia Progressive Elites Inauguration Committee, emphasised that youths would not sit idly by while their future is jeopardised by desperate political actors. He expressed satisfaction with the leadership style of Governor Otti.
Delivering a vote of thanks, the group’s Coordinator of Media and Publicity, Mrs. Onyenma Cynthia Ogechi, appreciated the warm reception accorded them by the ABSSAA Managing Director and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to its mandate.
