Kano Gov To Meet Tinubu Today, Finalise Defection To APC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly directed the suspension of the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic registration exercise in Kano State, pending the official defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the ruling party.

The directive comes as the Kano State governor is scheduled to meet the President today at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, to conclude arrangements for his final move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the APC.

Sources told Daily Post that one of the reasons Governor Yusuf had remained in Abuja for several days was to secure a meeting with President Tinubu, who was away from the country but returned late on Wednesday.

According to the source, the President specifically asked the governor to wait and see him immediately upon his return to Abuja before taking any further political steps.

Confirming the development, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Alhassan Doguwa, said the APC e-registration exercise in Kano was put on hold following directives from President Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman.

Doguwa stated that the decision was taken to allow Governor Yusuf to be formally unveiled as a member of the APC before the commencement of the registration exercise.

“You can see that even the APC e-registrations in Kano could not commence because President Tinubu and the party National Chairman asked to allow Governor Yusuf to be the first to do it,” Doguwa said.

The lawmaker made the disclosure while addressing supporters in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

Although neither the Presidency nor the APC national leadership has issued an official statement on the development, party sources say the suspension of the registration exercise underscores the significance being attached to Yusuf’s anticipated defection and its implications for the party’s structure in Kano State.

The meeting between President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf is expected to formally clear the way for the governor’s entry into the APC and set the tone for subsequent party activities in the state.
