Anambra: Moghalu Formally Resigns From Labour Party

The Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2025 Anambra State election, George Moghalu, has formally resigned his membership of the party.

The resignation was disclosed on Monday in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Johnson Okoye, titled “Moghalu Resigns Membership of Labour Party.”

According to the statement, Moghalu conveyed his decision in a letter dated January 26, 2026, which he personally signed and submitted to the Labour Party chairman of his ward in Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State.

The former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority did not state any reason for his decision to leave the party.

In the letter, Moghalu expressed appreciation to the Labour Party at the ward, state and national levels for giving him the platform to contest the November 2025 off-cycle governorship election in the state.

The letter, which took immediate effect, was written in a courteous and appreciative tone, acknowledging the cooperation and support he received from party leaders and members during the electioneering period.

Part of the letter read, “I bring you the good wishes of my family and write to formally inform you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective January 26, 2026.

“Let me also thank the party, through you, for providing me the opportunity to use the Labour Party platform to contest the last governorship election of our state.”

He further stated, “Please accept, as always, the assurance of my sincere regards and kindly convey same to the members.”

As of the time of filing this report, Moghalu has yet to disclose his next political move or whether he intends to join another political party.
