Atiku Meets ADP Chairman Amid 2027 Alliance Talks

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, met with the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, and other top officials of the party on Saturday, amid growing speculation over a potential opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abia Radio News reports that the meeting, held behind closed doors at Atiku’s residence in Abuja, has sparked political chatter as various opposition figures reportedly explore a common front to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next presidential poll.

Though details of the meeting remain sketchy, there are rumours that the conversation may have centred around the 2027 realignment of forces, especially as some prominent figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, are rumoured to be eyeing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

According to Daily Post, ADP National Chairman, Yabagi Sani, while reacting to the speculation, dismissed claims that the visit was about forming a merger or luring Atiku into the party.

The party leader did not elaborate on the content of their discussion but maintained that it was a routine engagement.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, has yet to publicly announce his 2027 ambition, but his recent political moves suggest he remains a central figure in opposition calculations.

Reports have suggested that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, are being considered for a joint presidential ticket under the ADC, a move that may threaten Atiku’s influence should he choose to switch platforms.
