Atiku’s Son Own Support Group Rejects Defection To APC, Vows To Remain In ADC

A political support group linked to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has removed his son, Abba Atiku Abubakar, from its ranks.

Abia Radio News reports that the group took the action after rejecting his call for members to defect to the All Progressives Congress.

The development followed Abba’s public defection to the APC on Thursday, January 18, 2026, where he urged coordinators and members of his political structure to join the ruling party and work for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Atiku Haske Organisation said Abba does not have the power to decide its political future and cannot issue instructions on its behalf.

The group also dismissed his request to rename it in support of President Tinubu, insisting that such a move goes against its collective decision.

In a statement released in Abuja, the initiator and convener of the organisation, Mai Nagge Bakari, explained that Abba was not a founder of the group and had no formal authority within it.

He added that Abba was only invited to join the organisation and did not play any role in funding or registering it.

Bakari stated that Abba had not made any financial contribution to the group’s activities and did not hold its registration documents.

Based on this, the group said it was not bound by any instruction coming from him and has now decided to remove him as a member.

The organisation reaffirmed that it had earlier agreed to move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the African Democratic Congress and had no plans to align with any other political party.

It described Abba’s action as a clear break from its shared decisions and guiding beliefs.

The group also maintained its support for Atiku Abubakar, saying it remains convinced that he best represents its goals and political direction.

It declared Abba’s directive invalid and warned him to stop presenting himself as a member of the organisation.

Abba had announced his defection to the APC at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, where he was welcomed by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and other party leaders from the North-East.

He pledged support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition and praised the current administration.
