FAAN: Iyabo Ojo Responds To Accusations Of Hypocrisy, Gives Condition To Praise Govt

Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has responded to the controversy surrounding a recent promotional video for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Naia News reports that the promotional video, which made the rounds online, captured Iyabo Ojo encouraging the public to utilise FAAN’s protocol services, which she described as offering comfort, speed, and exclusivity for travellers navigating the airport.

However, the video sparked criticism on social media, with many netizens recalling how the movie star criticised the current administration, questioning how she could now feature in a campaign promoting a government-owned agency.

Others also accused Iyabo Ojo of hypocrisy and political inconsistency, especially due to her support for the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Defending her decision to feature in the campaign video, the thespian clarified that promotional work was done entirely free of charge and was not political.

Iyabo Ojo explained that she was genuinely inspired by the tangible improvements at the airport, including upgraded facilities, a more efficient system, and newly constructed access roads.

According to the 48-year-old actress, she praises the good, not the government, adding that she will not fail to applaud the government when it improves.

She wrote, “I’m Nigerian. And I’m a voice. When I see progress, airports upgraded, roads rebuilt, systems improved etc, I shout it from the rooftops, if need be, not because I’m paid, not because I’m political, but because I feel it and I want good for my country. I will continue to use my craft, my voice, to promote Nigeria, and I’m unapologetic about it.

“As an influential person, a frequent traveler, a good citizen, and a child of this land… I got approved to film at the airport. FAAN approached me: You’ve seen the changes, Please help us spread the word. So I did. *FOR FREE.* No fee. No contract. Just love for Nigeria.

“Note: My fees as an influencer are way higher than the cost to pay and film at the airport — so I won’t call it “trade” by Bata… but just for the love of seeing changes.

“Some ask: Why praise them? I say, I praise GOOD — not government, and if the government does good, I’ll praise them too.

“I praised FAAN they’re doing an amazing job. I patronize them all the time. Even for my daughter’s wedding, they did so well. My loyalty? To my country. Always. I’m not just a voice. I’m a movement.

“If Nigeria must rise, we ALL must build it. Silence helps no one. Progress needs witnesses, needs amplifiers, and needs you and me. That’s our win.

“I’ll work with any political party — as long as it’s about building a better tomorrow for our dear nation. No hate. No agenda. Just hands joined. Let’s stop dividing. Start building.”
