Abia North, Nigeria – Former Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, has openly commended Governor Alex Otti for the massive infrastructural transformation, especially on road projects across Abia North, declaring that the truth must be spoken irrespective of political affiliation.

Speaking during a meeting of Abia North PDP stakeholders which he convened in his country home in Arochukwu LGA on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Ohuabunwa, who is currently the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt, said the realities on ground in Abia North cannot be ignored.

According to him, for years Abia North was abandoned by past administrations despite repeated appeals for development. But today, under Governor Otti, the story has changed.

“When I was driving on the Arochukwu road today, I was shouting because of the massive job done by Governor Alex Otti. For us in Abia North, things are better today than how it was a few years back, especially in road infrastructure. I am not talking about party, I am talking about individual performance, and for me, I will say it without fear that our road infrastructure has improved under this government,” Ohuabunwa declared.

The former Senator, who has been a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since its formation in 1999, stressed that party loyalty should not blind leaders from acknowledging good governance.

He noted that in the build-up to the 2023 elections, PDP leaders in Abia North had pleaded with the then-government to carry out meaningful projects in the zone but were ignored. Instead, according to him, it took the emergence of Governor Otti to address the long-neglected road network across the region.

“We told them that we were going into an election, please come and do some works in Abia North so we would have something to tell our people, but nothing was done. Today, most of those roads are being done by Governor Alex Otti. I cannot say because I am in PDP that I will see the truth and not talk. God will not forgive me,” he said.

Ohuabunwa further urged PDP members in Abia North not to be discouraged by recent political developments or by those leaving the party, assuring them that PDP still has a strong future.

He emphasized that his decision to host the meeting was not motivated by any personal political ambition but to reassure party members and encourage unity ahead of future elections.

While acknowledging that politics has moved beyond party labels to individual capacity and performance, the former Senator reiterated that he plays politics of reality, not enmity.

“Any person doing well in government, we must say he is doing well. For me, from Abia North, I will say it without fear that our road infrastructure has improved under this government,” he added.
