Gov Fubara Sets January Deadline for Creek Road Market Completion

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that the reconstruction of the Creek Road Market in the old Port Harcourt Township will be completed and ready for use by January.

The governor gave the assurance during an inspection visit to the project site, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work by the contractor.

Fubara explained that the decision to prioritise the market project followed the discovery that traders had extended their activities onto adjoining roads due to inadequate space, obstructing ongoing road construction in the area.

He noted that although his administration had initially planned to rehabilitate roads across the Town axis, addressing the market situation became necessary to ensure sustainable and effective road development.

According to the governor, the spillover from the old market had posed a significant challenge to infrastructure projects, prompting the government to embark on constructing a larger and more modern facility for traders and residents.

Fubara disclosed that the new market is divided into Sections A, B, and C, with construction already underway in one section while preparatory work continues on the others. He added that one of the sections was identified as a borrow pit, requiring evacuation and sand-filling before full construction could commence.

He said the contractor has assured that all technical challenges will be resolved within the project timeline, with completion expected between now and January.

The governor described the project as a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to people-focused development, adding that the completed market would enhance trading conditions and support ongoing road infrastructure improvements in the area.
