Governor Yusuf To Officially Join APC On Monday After Resigning From NNPP

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to officially return to the All Progressives Congress on Monday, January 26, 2026, a few days after leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Abia Radio News reports that this was made known on Sunday in a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who said the governor would complete the defection in Kano.

Yusuf earlier joined the APC in 2014 after winning the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat.

He later stepped aside for the party’s then-leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, before moving across different political platforms in later years, including his recent time in the NNPP.

The statement explained that his decision to return to the ruling party was based on the current realities of governance, national unity, and the need to support development efforts across the country.

The governor said returning to the APC would help improve relations with the Federal Government, speed up infrastructure projects, boost security cooperation, and improve services for residents of Kano State.

He also said the move would help build peace and political stability in the state.

According to the statement, Yusuf will register again as an APC member alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives and all 44 local government chairmen in the state.

He is also expected to launch the party’s electronic registration exercise during the event.
