I Pray, Smoke Before Performing On Stage – Rema
Afrobeats star Rema has opened up about how he prepares before stepping on stage, revealing that his routine includes alcohol, cigarettes and prayer.
Abia Radio News reports that the Calm Down crooner spoke during an interview with Dazed at the Milan Fashion Week, where he walked the runway for Diesel.
He explained that before every performance, he takes a small amount of tequila, smokes a cigarette, prays and checks in with his team to confirm that everything is properly arranged.
According to him, performing on stage is more demanding than modelling on the runway.
He said live performances require control of breathing and proper energy balance to keep the audience engaged from start to finish.
Rema also revealed that he has been inspired lately by Sudanese cultural live music.
He admitted that smoking remains his biggest weakness.
The singer, known for his vibrant stage presence and distinct sound, said he makes conscious efforts to connect with fans during his shows while keeping his performance level high.
He said: “A little tequila, a little cigarettes, pray, just tap in with the team and make sure they got everything on cue. Performing is more stressful than walking the runway. Smoking cigarettes is my biggest vice. I prefer stylish women over wealthy ones, I already have the money.”
