‘Oshiomhole Lives On Old Propaganda, Not Performance’ – PDP Publicity Secretary
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a swipe at former governor, Adams Oshiomhole, accusing him of deploying “tired fiction and bitterness” in his latest media comments targeted at ex-governor, Godwin Obaseki.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, the party said Oshiomhole’s recent interview was yet another attempt to “romanticise” Senator Monday Okpebholo while attacking Obaseki, a man he “once swore lacked the competence, capacity or composure to govern Edo State.”
PDP said, “Oshiomhole’s interview contained nothing new. It was the same well-worn bitterness and envy-driven propaganda. Edo people know better than to be deceived.”
Osa-Ogbegie mocked Oshiomhole’s criticism of recent groundbreaking ceremonies, alleging that the former governor “perfected the art of ceremonial sand-turning” without delivering solid projects.
He claimed Oshiomhole’s most notable “groundbreaking” achievements were his private real estate developments.
The statement listed properties allegedly linked to the former governor, including:
A villa in Iyamho
A mansion in Maitama, Abuja
A residence in Okorotun, Benin City
According to the PDP, these were achieved “while Edo people lived in squalor, in broken hospitals, dilapidated schools and collapsing infrastructure.”
It added, “His idea of development was to wear khaki, shout at contractors, repaint rusted roofs and pose for photographs.”
‘Obaseki Succeeded Where Oshiomhole Failed’ — PDP Lists Achievements
The party said Oshiomhole’s persistent criticism of Obaseki stemmed from resentment after Obaseki “succeeded where he failed woefully.”
According to Osa-Ogbegie, Oshiomhole failed to:
Attract Shoprite to Benin
Bring in foreign investment
Build a five-star hotel
Deliver a modern conference centre
Industrialise Edo
Sustain any long-term reforms
He also accused Oshiomhole of forcing out major businesses, including the Ikpoba Hill petrol depot.
In contrast, the PDP credited Obaseki with:
Delivering the Radisson Hotel and a world-class International Conference Centre
Attracting investments from Tolaram Group, Artee Group, Saro Africa, Farmforte and others
Developing the Benin Enterprise Park
Expanding Ossiomo Power for uninterrupted electricity
Supporting the Edo Modular Refinery
Establishing modern housing projects through EDPA
Recruiting teachers, doctors, nurses, civil servants, and tech specialists
The statement also highlighted EdoBEST, describing it as “West Africa’s leading basic education reform.”
Reacting to Oshiomhole’s claims that the Gelegele project “shifted when it rained,” the PDP said the former governor did nothing to develop the area during his tenure.
It accused Oshiomhole of crippling Ambrose Alli University by starving it of funds while establishing a competing university near his private residence.
“Obaseki inherited a financially rotten AAU, a disaster Oshiomhole incubated,” Osa-Ogbegie stated.
The PDP criticised the committee set up by the Okpebholo-led administration to probe the Museum of West African Art, calling it “a committee of the bitter.”
“Their motive is not truth. Their expertise is zero. Their qualification is hatred,” the party said.
‘Oshiomhole And Okpebholo Are The Same’
The statement dismissed Oshiomhole’s defence of the APC-led state government, claiming that the former governor was only attempting to “launder Okpebholo’s failures after ₦236 billion spent in ten months.”
“Oshiomhole wants Edo people to forget that APC governments past and present have reversed progress and dragged the state backwards,” it said.
Osa-Ogbegie also reacted to Oshiomhole’s description of PDP leaders as “ancestors,” saying such remarks were beneath a former governor.
He claimed Oshiomhole’s political influence waned after his removal as APC National Chairman.
“He was chased out of APC leadership like a maggi thief in Uzairue market,” the statement read.
The Edo PDP concluded that Oshiomhole’s outbursts were “panic-laced interviews” from a politician facing the end of his era.
“Oshiomhole may shout, mock and invent stories. Edo people have moved on from his drama, and no stage performance can save him or the APC from what is coming,” the statement added.
