Shettima Charges Adamawa, Bauchi Governors To Join APC

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has described the defection of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as both “personal and touching,” adding that it reflects a broader realignment in the North-East geopolitical zone.

Abia Radio News reports that Shettima made the remarks in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, during a grand reception on Saturday organised by the APC to welcome the governor into the ruling party.

The Vice President said Kefas’ move was a source of pride for the party, noting that the APC now controls more states in the North-East.

He also expressed optimism that governors from Adamawa and Bauchi states, both under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would soon “reconsider their positions” and align with the APC.

Declaring Governor Kefas as the APC leader in Taraba, Shettima urged party faithful to rally behind him.

Kefas Speaks On Defection

Speaking at the event, Governor Kefas said his defection was not about political ambition, but about repositioning Taraba for growth.

He added that President Bola Tinubu’s vision under the Renewed Hope agenda inspired his decision.

He assured citizens that his administration would remain focused on people-oriented governance and would deliver visible development projects across sectors.

In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the defection as a “masterstroke” in the interest of the people.

Yilwatda also called on other PDP governors to reconsider their stance and join what he termed “the progressive movement.”
