Six APC Aspirants Step Down From Kano Senatorial Race, Endorse Shekarau
Six aspirants who had earlier shown interest in the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Kano Central senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections have withdrawn from the race.
Abia Radio News understands that the aspirants also endorsed former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, for the seat.
The decision was reached during a high-level meeting reportedly convened by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in Abuja and lasted several hours before the agreement was finalised.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the aspirants, Usman Bala, Sha’aban Sharada, Muhammad Zango, Danyaro Yakasai, Abbas Sani Abbas, and Shehu Isa Driver, said they stepped down in the interest of unity and peace in Kano State.
According to them, the endorsement of Shekarau was part of a collective effort to strengthen political harmony and promote stability within the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abia Radio News recalls that Shekarau recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Shekarau announced his defection at his residence on Mundubawa Avenue in Kano, where APC posters adorned the venue.
The former governor said his decision followed extensive consultations and careful evaluation of political options.
“We have weighed all the options and arrived at this collective resolution. Do you all agree?” he asked supporters, urging dissenting voices to speak up.
He defected alongside Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, a chieftain of the PDP.
