Umuahia Set to Host High-Profile Tourism & Agro-Investment Conference in September

Big names in tourism and development converge in Umuahia this September. Discover what makes this international conference a must-attend event.

…. 7th Edition of the Tourism World International Conference to Focus on Economic Growth, Community Prosperity and Business Opportunities

Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, is set to host the 7th edition of the Tourism World International Commercial and Agro-Tourism Investment Conference & Awards on September 26th, 2025, at the Aguiyi Ironsi Complex Hall, St. Finbarrs Road.

Themed “Tourism: A Viable Tool for Unlocking Socioeconomic Growth, Community Prosperity and Inclusive Opportunities,” the highly anticipated event will bring together top international speakers, investors, tourism professionals, students, entrepreneurs, and government stakeholders in line with the World Tourism Month celebration.

Organized by De Tourism World International, a leading socioeconomic development and business support organization, the annual conference—now in its 14th year—continues to focus on the promotion of sustainable tourism, hospitality development, and infrastructure investment across Nigeria and beyond.

According to Uwakwe S. O, Executive Director of De Tourism World International, the 2025 edition holds special significance as it marks the second consecutive time Umuahia is hosting the event—thanks to the development-friendly policies of the current Abia State Government.

“We are returning to Umuahia because the government has created an enabling environment for tourism-driven economic conversations. This year’s conference will open up micro-tourism opportunities, agro-business investment potential, and community-based solutions to growth and inclusivity,” he said.

The event is free for public participation, and attendees can expect expert discussions on:

  • Socioeconomic and community development
  • Commercial and agro-tourism business models
  • Skill acquisition training
  • Hospitality business trends and investment
  • Health and stress management
  • Security as a driver of tourism
  • Award presentations for outstanding contributions to tourism and development

Global Line-up of Speakers and Networking Opportunities

A star-studded lineup of national and international thought leaders has been confirmed, including:

  • Prof. Wasiu Babalola
  • Prof. Mrs. Blessing Enemuo
  • Dr. Supriya Sharma
  • Dr. Annika Sorrensen
  • Dr. Azubuike M.A.
  • Elke Dens
  • Elsie Oji

These experts will share insights, strategies, and experiences on using tourism as a tool for nation-building, community revitalization, and entrepreneurial innovation.

Also expected at the event are students, researchers, NGOs, tourism agencies, development partners, and government officials. The organizers are currently soliciting the attendance of the Abia State Governor as the Chief Host, alongside other dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.

Experience Beyond the Conference

To enrich participation, an outdoor recreational activity has been scheduled for the morning of Saturday, September 27th, giving attendees the opportunity to explore Umuahia’s hidden tourism gems.

Organizers are still accepting partnerships, exhibitors, and academic paper submissions for the conference.
