Labour Party NWC Presents Free Governorship Form To Gov Otti
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party on Friday presented a free governorship nomination form to the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 elections, in recognition of what it described as his inclusive leadership style and commitment to the ideals of the party.
The presentation was made during a meeting held at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where the party leadership commended Governor Otti for demonstrating the Labour Party’s principles of social justice and equal opportunities for all Nigerians.
Presenting the free governorship nomination form, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Sen. Nenadi Usman, said the Governor has shown Nigerians, particularly the people of Abia State, the true meaning of Labour Party governance.
“We are here today to collectively express our gratitude for your good leadership and for showing Nigerians, especially the people of Abia State, what the Labour Party truly represents”, she said.

Sen. Usman further praised Governor Otti’s inclusive approach to governance, noting that he had rejected the “winner-takes-all” style of politics.
She added that the Governor’s leadership style had drawn commendation even from political opponents.

“You have won, but you are carrying along even those you defeated. Even those you defeated cannot help but praise you.
“If this is how Nigerian politics can be turned around, then there will be no acrimony in our politics”, Sen Usman added.

She disclosed that the NWC had also resolved to hand over all Labour Party nomination forms for Abia State to Governor Otti as a mark of confidence in his leadership.
Earlier, the National Secretary of the party, Iheanacho Obioma, described Governor Otti as the face of the Labour Party’s revival adding that the Governor has restored public confidence in the party.

“We are very happy with what you have done for the Labour Party. Nigerians are proud of you”, he said.
Responding, Governor Otti thanked the leadership of the party for what he described as a rare gesture.

“I want to thank the National Working Committee of our great party for this gesture of handing over the governorship nomination form to me free of charge”, the Governor said.
Governor Otti also commended the party leadership for stabilising the Labour Party despite recent internal crises and legal disputes.

The Governor noted that with the legal distractions now behind the party, attention should shift towards rebuilding and strengthening its structures and organs.
“I want to congratulate you for how you have been able to keep this party together, avoiding the landmines and stabilising it up to this moment. I think it would be right to say that the party is now safe.
“The only way to go now is up”, he declared.

In his vote of thanks, the immediate past interim National Secretary of the party, Sen. Darlington Nwokocha, who also picked up the nomination form for the Abia Central Senatorial Zone, described Governor Otti as a leader redefining political culture in Nigeria.
Senator Nwokocha also recalled the Governor’s role in ensuring peaceful and orderly processes during the party’s 2022 primaries, noting that his leadership brought discipline and unity to the Labour Party.
“You are not just winning elections; you are teaching us a new standard of leadership and politics”, he said.
The meeting was attended by Labour Party members of the House of Representatives led by the caucus leader, Ginger Onwusibe, alongside the party’s National Organising Secretary, Oluchi Opara, National Women Leader, Hilda Dokubo and National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa. Some members of the Abia State Executive Council were also in attendance.
