I Can’t Apologize If My Son Is Seen As Arrogant – Burna Boy’s Mum

Bose Ogulu, mother and manager of Nigerian music star Burna Boy, has responded to claims about her son’s attitude, especially that he comes off as arrogant.

Abia Radio News reports that she spoke during an interview on Channels Television with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, where she addressed how people view the Burna Boy brand and the way it is managed.

During the conversation, she made it clear that she is not bothered by labels people attach to her or her son. She explained that many opinions come with fame, and she focuses more on who they truly are rather than what people call them.

She also spoke about confidence and self-awareness, saying that understanding one’s value should not be mistaken for arrogance. According to her, standing firm in what you know and carrying yourself with confidence is part of self-respect, not pride.

Ogulu added that people often expect individuals, especially those from certain backgrounds, to act in a reserved way. She noted that issues like skin color, nationality, and gender have shaped how people are treated and expected to behave, but she does not agree with lowering oneself because of those expectations.

“I don’t mind honestly, I don’t mind at all. I mean any adjective they want to attach to you is ok. The thing is who are you? If knowing your worth and carrying himself as such is arrogant, then it is a good thing. And I can’t apologize for that. Because I think we were born into a world where we were expected to put our heads down.

“First is the color of your skin, the color of your passport, for me, my gender. So, I don’t understand the concept of that life. I understand that if I know something, I know it and I expect you to realise that I know it. And if you don’t realize that I know it, then, put me to the test”, she said.
